The original is here.  I didn’t add a texture (I like the textures it has), but did run Pioneer Woman’s boost, soft & faded, old west, another boost & then lighten.  What’s your opinion?  What would you have done differently?  Do you like the original or the post processed better?

  1. I certainly prefer this one over the original, though I think it is the white balance more than anything. If you warmed the white balance of the original, I think you’d get most of the benefit — for me, at least.

Very nice, in any event. 🙂

    • Ren, thank you! It could be the white balance, that’s something I didn’t think of, and one thing I forget often.

    • Ren, I checked the original – the white balance was set to auto. Sometimes that works better for me, sometimes I could do better (I like to think).

  2. Yep, I like this one better too. Gorgeous tones to it.

  3. I’m not a huge fan of relying on effects. Composition is so much more important. This shot has good composition, so I think you could play with the light a bit on the original and get a great shot.

But the effects you chose here work very nicely with the subject; I love the result.

Do you usually use a flash or do you shoot in natural light? Because you could restage this shot in the early morning or late afternoon, forgo the flash, let shadows fall and see what you get.

    • Finn, I totally get what you’re saying, and that’s why I *try* to only mess with some & post them on Fridays (try definitely being the key word here). I rarely use a flash, & didn’t on this one. I’ll have to keep an eye on the lighting – this is at work in my boss’ office, so I’m only there so many hours; and REFUSE to go just for a photo, heh. This chair is about 2 feet down from the spurs I’ve shot, but at a different angle.

  4. I love this one. Old West boost? Filter? I am horrible with filters. Can’t figure them out at all. lol I think you did an excellent job.

  5. You’re welcome Nicci, pretty awesome huh! I’ve also done an action & ‘step back’ through some (but not all the way undoing it) and liked the “1/2” results once in awhile too.
